The premiere Friday night at City Theatre on the South Side featured the charismatic performance of baritone Timothy Jones with Kevin Noe leading the ensemble. The concert opened with Cineshape 3 a trio by Amy Williams which makes interesting use of sonorities produced by striking metallic percussion instruments placed on the strings of a grand piano. Clarinetist Campbell MacDonald solo performance of Russell Pinkston’s Gerrymander was mixed with compelling electronic sounds that included doubling his lines. George Crumb’s “Eleven Echoes of Autumn” was the evening’s modern classic. Written in 1966 it is by turns fragile and dynamic. SCG board agrees to buy electronic bulletin boards

The Sun City Grand board of directors has approved the purchase of electronic bulletin boards for two recreation centers in the community. The 52-inch LCD television screens will be purchased by the Drama and Comedy Club and the Music Club and replace marquee poster locations at the Cimarron Center and Chaparral Center. The electronic bulletin boards will be devoted to drama and music club events. “While our posters are attractive they receive almost no attention from those who pass by into the meeting rooms” said Tom Piemme Drama and Comedy Club president in a proposal submitted to the board. “They are part of the landscape. He estimated the costs to be no more than $4000 for the marquees and two computers which will run the images on the marquees. As part of the agreement members of the Sun City Grand Wood Shop will design and install cabinets to store the computer equipment and Community Association staff will provide labor for the installation of the systems.
