Music critics say it’s an industrialized version of House Music that orginated in Chicago in the 1980s. Thanks to those musical roots Detroit has been home to one of electronic music’s largest and best attended festivals for 10 years. Last year nearly 76000 people came out for the three-day event. Here’s a video showing some highlights from Movement 2008. And yes the festival is for older teens and adults though some electronic music lovers bring the kids out for the daytime shows.

More than 70 acts will keep crowds dancing and windows near Hart Plaza rattling from Saturday to Monday. Movement’s four stages will host DJ and live sets by such acts as Afrika Bambaataa Bassnectar Glitch Mobb and more along with Detroit techno pioneers Kevin Saunderson Derrick May and Carl Craig. The festival will stretch into the wee hours too with a series of adjunct and after parties. Among the highlights are: a bash celebrating the 10th anniversary of Ann Arbor’s Ghostly International label on Saturday at the Magic Stick; the I’m n a Boat late-night cruise Sunday on the Detroit Princess with Carl Craig Luciano Dixon and Ame; a reunion of the musician and DJ collective known as Family Funktion on Sunday at Cliff Bell’s; a 25th Anniversary of House Music celebration Sunday at slo; and the official Movement 2009 closing party on Monday at Plan B Nightclub.

INTR 2009 (Ideas Need to Reach ut) stars more than 20 foreign and local VJs and DJs playing 15 hours of continuous music at D-Park in the 798 Art Zone to an expected audience of 10000 people. Although its status as the first electronic music festival is disputed it should be a groundbreaking event further graphic proof of the country’s opening-up. While festivals have become one of the rites of summer raves or dance parties have until now been forced underground because of their association with illegal activities and drugs. The situation came to a head in 2005 when a shindig on the Great Wall at Jinshanling three hours from Beijing was said to involve up to 1500 revelers taking drugs urinating and copulating on the World Heritage Site.

Now firmly established as Ireland’s leading electronic music festival this year marks the ninth edition of Celtronic. DJ Magazine recently described Celtronic as “Northern Ireland’s answer to Sonar a national treasure”. Celtronic attracts hundreds of music fans annually to the city of Derry for the world class mix of music events exhibitions and installations. Celtronic 2009 will feature some of the biggest names from all areas of quality electronic music.

Though the band took a brief break they came backstrong with their new album Divided by Night. The album not only is energeticand catchy it is a new sound for Crystal Method. New single "Drown in the Now" has the reggae element of featuredartist Matisyahu yet still incorporates the electronic music of the CrystalMethod. The fusing of these two genres is interesting and enthralling. Matisyahu’ssoothing voice accompanied by the techno music creates a very lively energeticsound. Not only did the duo blend electronic music with reggae they alsoexperimented with hip-hop. The track "Sine Language" features a hip-hop beat blendedinto an electronic beat.

They plan to release more acts each day through the site. The Monolith Festival showcases some of the best contemporary electro-indie music. Passion Pit the Walkmen Girl Talk and the Frightened Rabbit were some of the first announced. Method Man and Redman the Pains of Being Pure at Heart Thunderheist Health These United States Speakeasy Tiger Starfucker and Thao with the Get Down Stay Down have also been revealed for this year’s event. The two-day festival starts on Sept. 12 at the Red Rocks Amphitheatre.
