The Wild and Woolly Music of the Shtetl in All Its Infinite Variety
New York Times
Krakauer’s band Klezmer Madness! headlined the show which also included other leading modern klezmer groups: Brave ld World the Klezmatics and Mikveh. Klezmer the music of itinerant Eastern European Jews that was transplanted to America has been thoroughly collected studied and recharged by musicians — not all of them Jewish — who put old repertory and vintage musical styles back into circulation. But klezmer was never an insular tradition. It was always porous and cosmopolitan assimilating what musicians picked up on their travels. The prime movers of the klezmer revival have turned to making music that’s not primarily a re-creation of past glories but a style that recognizes the present without forgetting its roots. Most lyrics at the concert were in Yiddish.

Read Weekly?s Q&A with Steve Christmas from WMC 2009. What got you turned onto electronic music? My old boss took me and a couple other guys out to a Detroit to a Paul akenfold show and I wound up spending most of the night in a back room listening to Stacey Pullen one of the eclectic Detroit DJs. He was one of the DJs who got me really turned on to the Detroit techno sound and from that into electronic music in general. Where do you like to listen to DJs in Vegas?Tuesdays at Satellite Bar inside Moon happens to be one of the great underground house and techno nights in town. Who are your favorite local DJs?I have a lot of respect for Jordan Stevens in terms of his ability to spin for people who are I don?t want to say snobby but people who are really passionate about techno while also being able to please a crowd who are a majority of tourists who just want to dance and have a good time. M!ke Attack is someone I?ve had mad respect for since the first time I heard him spin. He has so much positive energy and an insane bass line and has a good ear for the banging sound that keeps a crowd going for hours.

When I?m in Miami I like to eat me some Cuban food!?Later LMFA joined the foursome for ?I?m in Miami Bitch. ? As Fergie shook her humps all over the stage you could feel the collective body heat of tens of thousands of young music-lovers and smell the fragrance of marijuana on the light breeze. For me a hip-hop fan it was a great way to start the two-day electronic music festival. Flash player is required to view this contentBlack Eyed Peas @ Ultra – from YouTube.

French kiss: Sebastien Tellier wants you to make sweet sweet love
Boston Herald
“utside France that’s the opposite. Some people know my songs but if they meet me in the street they don’t know me. ”Along with fellow Frenchmen and labelmates Air he’s part of his country’s electronic music renaissance although he operates on a far more atmospheric level than such harder Gallic dance acts as Justice Daft Punk and Busy P. “There is poetry inside my music. It’s kind of conceptual music” he explained. “I make music to create some good sensation and some good emotion inside the audience. But I don’t care about dancing and I don’t care about the nightclub.
