Most best-sellers go for $9. 99 on Kindle often half or less than their hardcover price and you can pack a mountain of vacation reading into your purse or knapsack without hurting yourself or your wallet. The Kindle is not the only electronic reader on the market. Then again Apple’s iPod was never the only digital-music player. But like the iPod the Kindle is the only one that’s made a market.

tmpl –>The San Francisco Symphony’s 2009-10 season will include six commissioned world premieres and inaugurate Project San Francisco a new initiative featuring two-week residencies by cellist Yo-Yo Ma and composer George Benjamin. The new season the 15th under Music Director Michael Tilson Thomas will begin Sept. 9 with a gala concert starring pianist Lang Lang before shifting into a three-week Mahler festival with appearances by mezzo-soprano Susan Graham and baritone Thomas Hampson. The season concludes June 23-26 with performances of Berlioz’s “dramatic symphony” “Rom?et Juliette. “We all know this is a very challenging moment in the world” Thomas said in an interview “and I’m very gratified and proud that the Symphony is maintaining its adventurous offerings. This is a strong indication of the kind of artistic statement that we’re trying to make.
