Burial“Untrue” (Hyperdub) is a recent acquisition. It’s very dark lugubrious submerged two-step weirdness. It’s electronic music that I have to be in a certain mood to listen to. It’s pretty intense. I appreciate this real going-for-it quality; going for an intensity of mood achieving it and sticking with it and not being afraid of it. It’s a weird sound. It’s in this territory of “I’m not actually sure that this is making me feel good but it is making me feel something.

Composers and Computers Work in Harmony at Georgia Tech’s Music Center

The center’s goal is to foster as significant a shift in music composition and performance as happened when the piano replaced the more limited harpsichord in the 18th century. “An endeavor of this sort in our time demands an interdisciplinary technological approach cutting across such fields as engineering computation material science design and music all the while keeping a sharp focus on aesthetics” the center’s Web site says. Electronic music dates back to the early 20th century when avant-garde composers began to manipulate recorded sounds mostly by cutting splicing and looping electromagnetic tape. In the late 1950s early synthesizers resembled the computers of the era: bulky behemoths that used cathode-ray tubes and were controlled by inserting paper punch cards. By the 1960s Robert A. Moog while working on a doctoral degree in electrical engineering from Cornell University had begun to invent a more user-friendly module with a keyboard and standard electrical devices such as oscillators. Digital synthesizers that connect with computers were on the market by the early 1980s and are ubiquitous now especially in popular music.

The Divine Performing Arts rchestra begins with a classical Western orchestra as its foundation and augments this with traditional Chinese instruments enabling its compositions to at once mine the potential of Western orchestral music and yet be rich in Chinese qualities. "Thank goodness they had a live orchestra because it's becoming very scarce. Someone who was a professional musician told me the other day that the current trend would be all electronic over the next ten years. So to have a live orchestra is very important. " Divine Performing Arts will perform next on the Chinese New Year at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center. For more information visit. DivinePerformingArts.

com” >website] site asks fans to write her letters of support but does not discuss the criminal charges against her or her musical future. K plans to perform with a DJ and dancers and use backing tracks to fill Jwl’s singing parts. The mess comes as the group’s buzz has hit a fever pitch thanks to a steady stream of underground club hits and remixes by electronic music kingpins like Basement Jaxx and Stanton Warriors. Yo! Majesty’s latest “Futuristically Speaking” was produced by British electro group Hardfeelings U. and combines the revolutionary rap of Dead Prez and the Coup with the raw sex rhymes of Princess Superstar and Peaches. He punches up the drums and those Justice-esque synths too while the guitars fade away. The result: A fine but all too forgettable midtempo track becomes an aggressive floor-filler. Better still– though not harder or faster than the A-Trak mix– is.
