Wolff 42 who makesmostly electronic music describes herself as a “virtual musician”. She hasnever performed outside Second Life though she said “it would be wonderful to doso”. She does however work inthe real world giving advice to bands and indie artists about performing on SecondLife. In SecondLife artists use the game’s audio-videosoftware to perform from their homes music studios or even from real worldshows. And apart from a goodcomputer there is little cost or hassle involved with gigs in SecondLife.

It creates a sense of nostalgia. Syntax Destiny I first heard this song on the soundtrack of a videogame and was absolutely blown away. Electronic music is generally frowned upon for its mechanical beats unimaginative and disjointed riffs and obscure meaningless wordplay. Destiny is the absolute anti-thesis of all that restoring my faith in the eclectic genre. Think of it as a perfect track to end a modern day remake of the first Godfather as Michael “ties up loose ends. ” The track almost always hits a nerve.

The event is intended to promote Memphis’ own Southern Girls Rock & Roll Camp a summer day camp for girls 10 to 17 to be Aug. 4-9 at The Hutchison School. At the camp local musicians will instruct girls in guitar bass drums keyboards vocals and electronic music. “Emphasis is placed upon a culture of positive self-esteem and collaboration among girls while building community through music” according to camp literature. Camp instructors and former camp students will take part in a panel after the first screening Friday night which probably will begin shortly after 7 p.

Herve Seb Fontaine Ralph Lawson & Stonebridge all on the same bill is pretty awesome by anyone’s standards. Add to that The Young Punx LIVE The Drummatic Twins Ultra+ DJs Ben Nott Get Carter & Tanner Jarvis & Deuce Soundsystem residents Mogs & Tomas Rubeck plus one of Birmingham’s favourite DJ double acts – Nono and you can safely say “We’ve got a show on our hands”. Due to the Calvin cancellation the decision has been made to not drain the pool. We will however still be using the back of the poolside area which will play host to The Drumattic Twins & Stonebridge and a Young Punx Dj set.
