The Thrill is back
San Francisco Chronicle – Apr 8, 2008
- Peter HartlaubHalou at Cafe Du NordFollowing a North American tour with Bob Mould Halou is settling in for a residency at Cafe Du Nord. Starting tonight the San Francisco atmospheric-electronic music trio will play every Wednesday at the Market Street venue through April focusing on material from its rougher-edged new EP “Sawtooth” and its forthcoming album. “The sound is quite a departure for us” said drummer and producer Mikael “Count” Eldridge. “We’ve always had guitars on our albums but on this record guitars are more the heart of the sound. The songs were written on guitar rather than added late so the songwriting is much different and the new songs are a hell of a lot more fun to play live. The new material also features a pair of guest players that further shaped the sound: cellist Zoe Keating who has played with Imogen Heap and Rasputina and former Cocteau Twins guitarist Robin Guthrie.
