The space between film and sound

And there’s a kind of punk element I would say that Brakhage approached the technology with like poking holes in the film which was a very punk attitude toward the material. And that’s how I think Text of Light approaches the sound. In addition to punk are there connections between Brakhage and electronic music you see as a DJ? Definitely with an electronic-music sensibility you have different kinds of colliding information almost like a fugue where you have multiple voices happening simultaneously. I find that interesting in Stan Brakhage’s work and I think it ties into what a lot of electronic musicians now are doing like in the sort of laptop world. Since like 1998 when the technology really changed I think there’s a way that the technology is affecting how we think of narrative so there can be multiple narratives happening at once in an abstract sense. I think Stan Brakhage and a lot of those guys were deconstructing that narrative. Are Text of Light open to some of the basic structural devices Brakhage used? Yeah even though we’re improvising there is an element of us trying to figure out how to have a beginning or a middle or some kind of landscape to the improvisation some sort of shape.

Bass notes were reproduced reasonably well but they lacked the low-down punch we found in Creative’s higher-end models. Bass is a bit slow in these headphones leading to a very rich warm sound. Despite this they’re adequate for listening to beat-driven genres such as electronic music. Treble quality was overall less remarkable than the other frequencies often tending to be a bit quiet and overpowered by the bass and mid-range. This was slightly problematic when listening to female vocalists and pop music where the higher notes often felt rolled off. We didn’t notice any digital noise or fuzziness when connecting the headphones to a variety of input devices. The headphones are easily driven and can play at reasonably high volumes.

Kevin B is not only totally at ease with his electronic music machine but is also warm and friendly to callers. The only downside is that you have to constantly remind yourself to keep the volume low so as not to wake up your neighbours in your excitement. Here’s a quick round-up of what listeners can expect from On the Edge: Mondays: Chart-topping tracks plus Kevin B’s personal picks. Psycho by Puddle of Mud The Pretender by Foo Fighters and Beautiful by Ten Years were among the recent offerings. Tuesdays: Choice albums played back-to-back contests and new releases as freebies for listeners.

James Ford and Jas Shaw started out making electronic music in college (studying biology and philosophy respectively at Manchester University) and actually formed an electronic rock band in the ’90s called Simian along with two other musicians. But Ford and Shaw eventually split off on their own spinning DJ gigs remixing other artists (Air the Go! Team Klaxons Peaches and more) and building their name before the release of their 2007 album. ” That album cemented.
