They even tracked the whole album using analog tape. “We’re always a band to follow our instinct” rrall says. “When our instinct was interested in electronic music we followed it. This time we were in the mood to make a rock and roll record a rock and soul record. It’s a cyclical thing. I always like to let Poi Dog change as it does rather than stick to a certain sound.

Bungle Tomahawk and The Dillinger Escape Plan. A versatile vocalist Patton is known to scat croon bark rap and beatbox. The Zorn festival is one of many Israel appearances over the years for Patton who staged an electronic music show this past summer at Levontin 7. The remaining American imports represent a who’s who of the Tzadik inner circle many of whom have been active in alternative jazz and world music outside the Zorn community collaborating with some of the top names in music. Bassist Greg Cohen for example has played with Willie Nelson Keith Richards Bob Dylan and Lou Reed while guitarist Marc Ribot has worked with Allen Ginsberg and Robert Plant and has collaborated extensively with Elvis Costello and Tom Waits. Brazilian percussionist Cyro Baptista has recently performed with David Byrne Yo-Yo Ma James Taylor Paul Simon Trey Anastasio Sting and Herbie Hancock and his own Beat the Donkey ensemble has recorded on Tzadik. Lucy Wilkinson’s design makes the North Wall’s handsome brick-and-timberauditorium – a converted school swimming pool – into a split-levelgraffiti-spattered setting. Here squaddies pay prostitutes clad in luridLycra and faux fur for oral sex. Young men and women writhe bump and grindto electronic music. But if Conquest has a point to make about modernmorality she’s not stating it clearly enough. Isabella’s assertion “More than our brother is our chastity” when faced withthe option of sacrificing her virginity for Claudio’s life ought to soundstartling; here delivered by Amy Stacy’s rather prim and pallid Isabellait feels almost inconsequential. The dichotomy of the character’s ferventreligiosity and sensual language – and the irresistible attraction she holdsfor the ascetic Angelo – offer a rich variety of interpretations in acontemporary setting where fundamentalism and sexuality might have madedramatically potent bedfellows. Sadly the production never dares so far.

Jarre 59 is the son of Maurice Jarre who composed music for the films of David Lean and French Resistance heroine France Pejot. Rocky Mountain News – Mar 27, 2008
A handful of sleepy-eyed students gathers in Grundy’s basement music room. Seating themselves at electronic keyboards the beginning keyboard students seem barely awake. Among the five or six only one or two start to practice. The others sit and stare at the notes on the page. After working with an intermediate student at an upright piano in the next room Grundy visits each novice.
