Autokratz: Quintessentially English
Gigwise – Mar 14, 2008
Russell is a highly enthusiastic and deliriously chuffed half of the very English Autokratz. He is genuinely happy to be where he is and isn’t afraid to say it. Autokratz are riding the crest of a wave of very exciting English electronic music “At the moment there is loads and loads of great electronic music coming from England. ” He cites Alex Metric and Street life DJ’s amongst others of this new wave of quality homegrown electronica. These are exciting times indeed not least for Russell. Although it must be added this is not a xenophobic stance for English music just merely an appreciation of where they are coming from and the music being produced. “Its not just something Europeans can do English people can make electronic music that matters as well”.
Aiming to be continent’s alpha club Beta charts a new course for…
Denver Post – Mar 14, 2008
Designed according to feng shui principles Beta is big on its luxurious finer points: a separate VIP entrance top-of-the-line sound system and later this spring “The Garden” a giant flower-draped patio. But despite the recent high prices and careful opulence Beta’s not supposed to be a snooty club for esoteric music connoisseurs. “We don’t want to be tagged as just an electronic-music club” says Roulier. “ur crowd on Thursday is different than our crowd on Fridays is different than our crowd on Saturdays. ” Fridays will feature mash-ups by DVDJ Unique plus mainstream spinners like DJ A… Thursdays and Saturdays are the night to shine with future headliners Kaskade Benny Benassi and Paul Van Dyk on the way. Denver’s niche for electronic music is relatively small but Roulier thinks there’s plenty of room for another temple of boom. “With our relationship with Beatport we think most of the DJs will want to play for us” he said. This Saturday Beta hosts a St. Patrick’s Day party then on Wednesday DJ Z-Trip mans the decks for the club’s official grand opening celebration. Advance tickets for both events are $15 and are available on groovetickets.
Band has no problem clawing out of musical cages
Knoxville News Sentinel (subscription) – Mar 14, 2008
There are some keyboards and loops and stuff but everything is played live. I played cellos and had friends come in and play violas. I get really tired of electronic music. Some people do it really well. I definitely don’t. So I wanted to stick with what I know more this time. He admits though there is something that sounds electronic still in the mix.
Right on time theme songs land at airports
USA Today – Mar 14, 2008
The Cologne-Bonn airport holds an important place in the history of airport music. After being stuck at this airport for hours in the mid-1970s musician Brian Eno created Ambient 1: Music for Airports a genre-establishing album of calming electronic music for public spaces. In 2003 inspired by Eno’s effort the Cologne-based band plus49 (the country code for Germany) teamed up with a design firm to create music specifically for the Cologne-Bonn Airport. They wrote on-hold music for the telephones special elevator music and an airport “gong” a four-second piece of music called Happy Sky played before every overhead announcement. The band’s song Symbols & Gateways written to honor the launch of the Germanwings-Airbus “Spirit of Cologne” is now the airport theme song and included on an album of airport-inspired music. In some cities music promotes the airport.

Stars will Shine as festive frenzy looms
Belfast Telegraph – Mar 14, 2008
Leading the charge into Bank Holiday oblivion are Shine with the first of two special outings taking place at QUBSU tomorrow night followed by another dance extravaganza coming up on Easter Monday. Headlining the main room on Saturday will be Dave Clarke a frequent visitor to these shores and one of the most popular and talented electronic music DJs currently plying his techno trade on the international mixing circuit. He played his first foreign gig in Amsterdam in 1988 which ultimately led to his dominance of the worldwide electro scene throughout the Nineties playing many summer festivals and superclubs from Brazil to Singapore. As many of the first-generation experimental techno mixers fell by the wayside around the turn of the millennium Dave kept true to his unique sound — a mash-up of techno and electro with ghetto-tek hip-hop and the occasional 1980s new wave number. Supporting Dave alongside resident Simon McDermott will be Detroit’s DJ 3000 one of the masters of the underground sounds of his native city and boss of the highly influential Motech records label which he founded in 2001. His claim to fame is the totally original hybrid sound produced by his label which he has perfected by blending a solid core of funk and electronica with Albanian and Middle Eastern rhythms using the very latest studio technology.
