Rock stars tuning in as Hollywood composers
MSNBC – Jan 13, 2008
But sometimes a rocker turns out to be a composer waiting to happen. That tag fits Charlie Clouser whose recent composer credits include NBC?s ?Las Vegas? CBS? ?Numbers? and all four of Lionsgate?s ?Saw? films. Clouser studied composition and electronic music as a college student and went on to work as a tech assistant for composer Cameron Allan on the TV series ?The Equalizer? before he was ?sidetracked? by a career in rock ?n? roll. He spent most of the ?90s playing with industrial rock group Nine Inch Nails and went on to work as a producer and remixer for acts such as White Zombie Ministry and Marilyn Manson. Clouser says his a background in electronics-heavy rock was great training for his film and TV work. To the sweat drip down my…
Seattle Post Intelligencer – Jan 13, 2008
Whereas I do believe there is good Hip-Hop out there in my experience most of the Hip-Hop played in clubs contain lyrics preaching about things that I don’t necessarily resonate with. Classics such as:”To the window to the wall. To the sweat drip down my balls”.

Ambient Haze Romanticism and Deft Techniques
New York Times – Jan 13, 2008
Their duo itsnotyouitsme which Mr. McMurray started as students at the Eastman School of Music in Rochester uses amplified instruments sound processing and electronic loops to create a broader and more varied sound than a violin and guitar would normally yield. And reasonable listeners could disagree whether this is a rock band or a chamber group. But that’s beside the point as arguments of that kind increasingly are these days. The four works on “walled gardens” are instrumental meditations that draw heavily on early Minimalist techniques most notably repetition and gradual expansion. Repeating figures often continue without transformation and gradually melt into the ambient haze as new layers of violin guitar and electronic sound are added.
