Another talented young singer Rotorua's Elizabeth Marvelly has emerged as a star of the future signing with EMI Classics in London and releasing a successful self-titled debut album. Rapper Scribe flew the flag for hip hop with his album Rhyme Book which reached No 4 on the music charts and confirmed his position as one of the country's most successful musicians. Shapeshifter and Pitch Black were among those keeping the electronic music fans happy while a soundtrack of local music for acclaimed local television drama utrageous Fortune has also been hovering around the top of the charts. Hard working New Zealand bands making good progress here or overseas are too numerous to list; SJD Pluto Goldenhorse The Brunettes Liam Finn The Electric Confectionaires Atlas The Checks and The Bleeders are just a few. Fagan the former Mockers frontman who is working with his new band Fagan & the People mentions some of those when asked about bands that have stood out for him or done well on the independent music charts but rattles off a few more lesser known ones as well. Among them are The Stomps lmecha Supreme Dudley Benson Happy Palace Dictaphone Blues Surf City The Tweeks Gerda Blank Blackmarket Art and The Robba. He says he would love to be in a corporate situation where decent amounts of money could be spent promoting New Zealand music overseas.

Wild-eyed solos in multiple styles and arrangements cleverly witty repartee with the audience and one of the few men that will leave any music fan star-struck. Man I hope he comes back around next year. March 10: IndigoVox Girls on Film DollhouseX and Paramutual perator at The Atlantic: The second annual Women of Electronic Music showcase. We all know the ladies get an automatic bad rap when it comes to music. You’ve got to be of superior quality to be treated as an equal – a familiar bar for the general population to set. Task accomplished because these girls killed. Not only did they make a bulletproof gender case but Girls on Film contended that the ’80s weren’t all as terrible as people remember.
