Roving ambassadors The naval musicians are known as roving ambassadors of the country since they perform at foreign ports during overseas visits by Indian Navy ships. Progressing from martial music successive conductors of the band increased the range of its repertoire to include arrangements of symphonies overtures solos duets concertos and other forms of contemporary music including Indian classical and western pop music. The Indian Naval Bands have regaled audiences all over the country and several places abroad. The musicians of the Navy have performed in ensemble with reputed bands at prestigious international events while on goodwill visits abroad. such as the bicentenary celebrations of the Statue of Liberty the President’s Fleet Review in the US the Australian Bicentennial Celebrations International Fleet Review at Tokyo Japan and the International Music Festival at France. The band has performed at Russia Cuba England China Australia Malaysia Singapore and Indonesia… It has showcased its ability at prestigious international events such as the International Military Music Festival held at Albertville in France and Modena in Italy. The Naval Musicians have been improvising on Hindustani classical and Carnatic ragas in various forms and genres particularly in fusion with western and jazz music. The band now uses instruments such as mridangam tabla carnatic violin sitar as well as state-of-the-art electronic musical instruments. It has further enhanced its range by adding large String Section comprising violins violas cellos and double basses to make it a complete Symphonic rchestra.

Life spent in musicA glance anywhere in his home reveals signs of all of Buchanan’s careers and a life spent making and working around music. Next to his front door is the sign "Plaza Music Productions" a holdover from when Buchanan was in the recording business. He’s left recording pretty much behind although he does still dabble in transferring music from reel-to-reel tapes to CDs.
