‘Pixilerations [v.4]‘ is a wired wonderful world
Providence Journal – Sep 27, 2007
” “Not only do we have more artists and performers that ever but we’re starting to get more people from outside the United States. ”As an example Rovan points to Skif++ a Dutch electronic-music group known for performing its own compositions using a combination of playful do-it-yourself instruments and computer-game joysticks. “In electronic-music circles they’re kind of like rock stars” Rovan says of the group which will give a 10 p. concert at the Space at Alice gallery on Friday ct… thers meanwhile hark back to Pixilerations’s roots as a showcase for Providence’s own electronic arts scene — a scene based mainly on the campuses of Brown University and the Rhode Island School of Design. “Actually it goes back a pretty long way” says Rovan. “Brown has one of the oldest electronic-music programs in the country — I think it started in the 1950s. More recently we’ve been reaching out to artists in other disciplines such as film video and installation. We’ve also formed an ongoing partnership with FirstWorks. ”This year marks the fourth time that FirstWorks and Pixilerations have joined forces — hence the “v. 4” or “version four” in the festival’s title.

MTV.com – Sep 27, 2007
U2 reconvened in Berlin 1990 to record a new album with Eno and Lanois. While the sessions for the album were difficult the resulting record Achtung Baby represented a successful reinvention of the band’s trademark sound. Where they had been inspired by post-punk in the early career and American music during their mid-career U2 delved into electronic and dance music with Achtung Baby. Inspired equally by late-’70s. Achtung Baby was sonically more eclectic and adventurous than U2′s earlier work and it didn’t alienate their core audience.

Nightlife: Italian producer Gaudi brings Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan’s…
San Francisco Chronicle – Sep 27, 2007
Gaudi won’t say what his favorite new track is. But he admits to being especially inspired by “Dil Da Rog Muka Ja Mahi” which accidentally drew in the bass line from the Kraftwerk classic “The Model. ” “They are apparently three worlds that are not connected – Sufism reggae and German electronic music – and done by an Italian. That sounds strange” says Gaudi. “n the other hand we’re all citizens of the world. Music is one big beautiful thing you can play with. Human beings give music tags.

Gregg Gillis celebrating the source material
San Diego Union Tribune – Sep 27, 2007
”Gillis considers his Girl Talk performances a failure if the stage doesn't quickly fill with gyrating audience members. They become a vital part of his uproarious party-hearty shows. “I consider myself an electronic music producer a sound collage artist really. I've never considered myself a DJ” Gillis said. “I do work with pre-existing media and I'm not offended by the term. But a DJ can mix (vinyl) records together and I've never even tried to do that. “And even if a DJ does their own remixes their skill live is cuing someone else's records.
