It’s a shift Auge finds difficult to gauge. “It’s hard for us tostep back and see if it’s going to really have some influence onnew music” he says. But he is excited about the idea that throughJustice French electronic music is finding a new audienceespecially in light of the duo’s humble beginnings:”We started from zero by doing tracks in our bedrooms and it’sreally amazing to see that people are into it. After Waters of Nazareth many feared Cross would arrivedrenched in inaccessible feedback and noise. But not only was thealbum’s sound respectful of the pioneering “French touch” house ofthe mid to late ’90s its epic qualities pop melodies andclassical baroque influences were both clever and innovative. ” The tangible Green Weenie was a cardboard invention by venerable announcer Bob Prince as a means of jinxing opponents. We couldn’t find any explanation so have to assume a Green Weenie Dog would have been a dachshund that had actually eaten a spoiled frankfurter. Also stark was the 1986 Mets’ rally song “Let’s Go Mets” in which background play-by-play radio calls of key plays accompany a rock score and the chorus:There’s no stopping us nowWe’re gonna do it againThis time there’s no question of howIt’s just a matter of whenBroadcaster calls are also central to “Yankee Nation” an electronic-music ode to the 2000 Bombers in which otherwise the only words are the refrain “Let’s go Yankees!”Even so that track contains 50 percent more words than does the purest baseball song ever created the incredible “Van Lingle Mungo” recorded in 1961 by Dave Frishberg. The entire lyrics of this super cool bossa nova track are composed solely of the names of 38 baseball players of various stature plus the words “big” and “and. As legend has it Frishberg an accomplished studio musician submitted standard lyrics for his tune which were rejected by his label. Despondent he was browsing through a gift copy of the Baseball Encyclopedia where the rhythmic name “Van Lingle Mungo” grabbed him. Rare is the baseball song that you can replay much less one that cries out for a remake.

That’s a 1966 act it’s still on thebooks. We’ve done a lot of research we want it to be as accurateas possible. Besides transmitting the LCU’s interchanges with the public theaudience’s headphones also provide electronic music mixed byAdelaide’s Pretty Boy Crossover and officious public serviceannouncements. The LCU is a well-drilled polite andself-consciously patriotic unit referencing outfits such as theBlack Shirts the group of Melbourne men who protest outside thehomes of women they consider immoral. “There are elements of that. Some people have felt there wereinklings of the Hitler youth in what we’re doing. bviously we’reusing this as a point of parody a critique of what makes us tickin Australia.
