Dark energy data from an expanding cluster of galaxies one billion light years away is being used to generate musical sounds using computer software and synthesisers. An exhibition opening on Thursday will allow members of the public to hear the “sonic interpretation” at Cambridge University's Institute of Astronomy. Speakers placed inside the Institute's three telescope domes will play the electronic music as well as dark energy performances by Indian and jazz musicians. Scientists are still baffled by dark energy which makes up 74% of all the matter-energy in the universe and seems to permeate space. Its anti-gravity effect can be seen in images from far-away galaxies. ne particular galaxy cluster Abell 2029 one billion light years from Earth in the constellation Serpens has been used by astronomers to study dark energy. Data from X-ray images of the galaxy cluster captured by Nasa's Chandra satellite were fed through a computer and turned into “notes” of varying pitch and intensity.

The Love Parade which started in Germany and spread around the globe will start at noon moving down Market Street – a free rolling party with international DJs on floats spinning discs. A massive post-parade show with DJs and electronic bands with be staged at Civic Center Plaza. Performers will include Underworld Thunderball and Ladytron.
