Digitalism on growing up ‘techy’

How did you become interested in electronic music – bands or genres that influenced you?We both used to listen to a radio show in 1993 called ‘The Dance Charts” on a local station in Hamburg run by a (German) music journalist legend (Gerd Bischoff). He always played the top club tunes electronic-wise which was old-school house of course at that time and became more techy and progressive over the years. Although we were pretty young (11 and 14) it grabbed us somehow and we used to record the shows on tapes. Eventually we understood the formula behind electronic music and club sounds. But we didn’t only listen to this kind of music; we grew up with many musical genres including Euro Dance HipHop (that’s what Jence started DJing with) Funk Disco (Isi started DJing with it) Rave Trance Rock and all that… He always played the top club tunes electronic-wise which was old-school house of course at that time and became more techy and progressive over the years. The Kinks were kind of punk in the 60’s trashing their instruments after the gigs and Dr.

: My experience in hip hop music was short lived. It was more of a fling I had at a very young age (13). I had the chance to learn the core of music production and that helped me start my electronic music endeavor. When I dwelled in hip hop music I started making beats by stripping the vocals off of commercial hip hop music because I never cared for rapping. Shortly after those experiments I downloaded a music program and I began making strictly percussive beats. Though I haven’t listened to hip hop music in ages whenever I start making percussion in electronic music I usually start out with a basic beat that I could have made at age 13 and I evolve that beat into a more complex and completely different concoction.

” Having gained notoriety while playing in the band TangerineDream Haslinger has more recently focused his career on soundtracks. Themusic from “Vacancy” arranges intricate layers of intense sounds that beginvery quietly and build to a wild crescendo. Traditional instrumentationcoupled with electronic music make this a uniquely scored thriller. At onepoint a heart monitor is cleverly used to provide for a particularlychilling notion of impending doom. Haslinger said “I believe the resulting soundtrack makes a statement aboutour time about our ability to mix and match across periods and styles andto do so in a way that is both eclectic and forward driving in its creativedesign. Classically trained in Salzburg and Vienna Haslinger’s transition intoscoring films has been completely natural. In addition to his past soloprojects and numerous scores his recent efforts include: “Underworld” “TheGirl Next Door” “The Italian Job” and contributing music to StephenSpielberg’s “Minority Report.

The electro-psych pop act’s eighth effort includes “Let the Wolves Howl at the Moon” “Baby Ate My Eight Ball” and “Run-Away” — which contains the unforgettable lyric “We may have fought with teeth and nails: I still recall your banking details. ” And while we’re on this subject Louisville Kentucky’s technologically adept VHS or Beta look starry-eyed on their new one Bring on the Comets which features the title track “The Stars Where We Came From” and “Alpha Theta. Geography: When the Beastie Boys are involved it’s always easy to figure out where you’re at: NYC. Adrock and Shitake Monkey’s Chuck Brody produced Can I Keep This Pen? the new album by female rap trio Northern State. The deluxe package also has tour memorabilia including a tour program backstage laminate and glossy photos of the band. Maybe what keyboardist Erik Engstrom said in a recent press statement will put you at existential ease: “Everyone who will ever live will die a natural death and will soon after be forgotten for eternity. Hopefully this album will serve as a warning to the human race to stop taking itself so seriously as we have seen the dire consequences of its actions in the future.

San Diego CityBEAT – Aug 28, 2007
Yepiz sips a black iced double espresso and listens to loud thumping electronic music pouring from his computer speakers. Bright white dots whose collective form takes the shape of combination of a computer and a tank are spray-painted just outside the studio–it’s one of the latest examples of Yepiz’s stenciling experiments. The Mexico-born artist has been switching up his technique and approach to stencil art since the days of Alf and Rubik’s Cubes. Known to the art world as Acamonchi his work cross-references pop culture and politics while serving up a healthy dose of social commentary and humor. It’s funny though–Yepiz’s love for the art form is somewhat cloaked in his disdain for the bulk of contemporary stencil-art work.
