Now her designs really are turning into a dance. The Iraqi-born architect has teamed up with internationally acclaimed Belgian choreographer Frederic Flamand to create “Metapolis II” a multimedia performance energized by Hadid’s sets and costumes electronic music and video _ and the sound of a live violin. The dance opens Wednesday at the Lincoln Center Festival with performances repeated Thursday and Friday. “This is a piece that questions the emotions of our lives in cities today” Flamand says. “It brings to life the relationship between buildings and people in the street between metal and flesh. “”Metapolis II” is performed by the Ballet National de Marseille a troupe based in the southern French city.

Wall Street may also have been cheering a slowdown in spending on technology after several years of heavy investment. The surge came on a day when Wall Street pulled back sharply as investors dealt with disappointing earnings reports and rising concerns about the mortgage market. The Dow Jones industrials fell more than 200 points. Amazon’s quarterly earnings climbed to $78 million or 19 cents per share from $22 million or 5 cents per share during the same period last year.

Hope there is a little of the piano playing and real acoustic guitar from her mid period. Not sure if I really love the electronic- sounding guitar effect on the last studio album. No doubt the lyrics will still be top notch.

Suzanne Vega was born July 11 1959 in Santa Monica CA; her parents divorced shortly thereafter and after her mother (a jazz guitarist) remarried to Puerto Rican novelist Ed Vega the family moved to Manhattan. A shy and quiet child Suzanne nonetheless learned to take care of herself growing up in the tough neighborhoods of Spanish Harlem. At age 14 she made her first attempts at writing songs; however when she attended the High School for the Performing Arts as a teenager it was to study dance not music… Even though the album didn’t recapture Vega’s 1987 popularity she was still — indirectly — involved in one of 1990′s most bizarre hit singles. Two British dance producers working under the alias DNA took the a cappella Solitude Standing track “Tom’s Diner” and set it to an electronic dance beat releasing the result as a bootleg single called “h Suzanne. ” When A&M discovered the piracy Vega decided to allow the single’s official release under its original title and it became a substantial hit in the U.
