Chanteuse chameleon
Sydney Morning Herald – Jun 23, 2007
She is usually described as an electronic artist which is alittle too limiting for someone who rarely stays long enough in anyone genre. How would Simon describe her music?”I think it’s a hybrid. At the beginning I said it’s electronicsongs because I took the things that I loved in electronic musicand crossed it with my songs. That was the starting point but Ithink I’m there [in the electronic camp] because of the productionand the type of sounds more than the music. “I’m always looking for new textures something surprising. Itis like research for me. I can’t for example put one sound in themachine and let it stay like this.

Digital music no environmental cure

It also sparked protests from pro-Apple bloggers who claimed Apple’s leadership in the digital music space had a positive impact on the environment. After all replacing physical CDs with digital files must help the environment right? Wrong. Environmental groups claim the music industry’s transition from physical to digital has no discernible benefit to the environment and in the short term is actually causing more harm than good. For starters there is no noticeable decline in the number of physical CDs found in landfills. While music fans are buying fewer CDs at record stores they are buying more blank recordable CDs to burn their own discs from music acquired digitally. According to research from Understanding and Solutions sales of recordable CDs – or CD-Rs – have increased from 9. 9 billion in 2004 to 10… It provides donation resources information on local and company-specific recycling efforts and a buyer’s guide that lets manufacturers showcase “green” products. It is also worth noting that MP3 players contribute far less to electronic waste than the main culprits – mobile phones and computers – and much of today’s faults are chalked up to the growing pains of a nascent industry. – ReutersTags: music industry electronics recycling-and-waste-management united-statesSearch for news.

You know what I did last summer?
Manila Standard Today – Jun 23, 2007
Mapa Back to what’s happening around art shows I’ve seen live acts and new music to talk about. Recently caught “aDREation Shuffle” at the I Love You: Store and Art space along Makati Avenue. An exhibit of mixed media by Randy Tojos a simple show amidst the store’s merchandise about 5 feet canvasses like encyclopedia art blown up in tarpaulins hand-painted on mixed with silkscreen art. Plus two dinning chairs with their cushion hand painted accompanied by silkscreen of The Last Supper on it. It’s like The Da Vinci Code mixed with Fantasia pop art painting new wave and design all mashed-up… Emelie is accompanied by a laptop DJ wearing a magic hat or a tall hat similar to Slash’s of Guns n’ Roses while he operated like a huge pink bulb used as a trigger for samples a theramin that looked like a picture frame he also had an electric guitar strapped lying down toyed with a Lemur* and sometimes blowing a Pale Pilsen bottle on the mic. n the left corner they have a percussionist playing floor tom and pounded and wadded on water in an aquarium under a mic. Emelie switches from an electric guitar and a baby grand piano and she also wore which looked like a homemade electronic contraption on her arm that triggers effects I think. Sometimes their percussionist also pounds on the casing of the piano and plays the strings inside. Then everyone got busy with all the instruments it was very visual indeed. Emelie has a beautiful voice and sang both in English and French. She sounded like Feist Frente and sometimes like a more digestable indie-pop electro Bjork.

Whatever the task there is now a robot tohelp you get it done. Here and now Robots of the future aren’tquite going to be what we saw in The Jetsons. The idea of humanoidrobots was nice for science fiction but task-specific bots are muchmore efficient. They will operate as embedded robots within thehome environment. Free-roaming robots – such as iRobot’s Roomba($599) and Scooba ($799) and Electrolux’s Trilobite ($2999) whichare cleaners and the lawn-mowing Robomow (from about $1350) – arealready on the market.
