Music Calendar Tits Ahoy!
Cleveland Free Times – May 30, 2007
Tickets: $12 advance $15 at the door. — Tim WebbSkinny Puppy Since Skinny Puppy's mid-'90s dissolution electronic music has been battered by quickie fads and mini-genres. Almost completely indistinguishable to the casual fan (and larded with a baffling amount of jargon necessary to even discuss it) all are definitely at a great remove from the once-dominant industrial genre of which roost Skinny Puppy was among the kings and which has been all but completely absorbed by goth culture. Which is why its 2004 comeback album The Greater Wrong of the Right was a bit of a shocker — the band managed to remain true to its grim and aggressive vision while still sounding like fully contemporary electronic music. That makes Mythmaker all the more laudable as a follow-up; it shows further evolution. Were Skinny Puppy a lesser band it could easily release albums of homages to its '80s dance floor hits like "Assimilate" and justifiably expect the black betties to line up for it.

Nelly Furtado is no one-trick pony
PopMatters – May 30, 2007
”Not surprisingly some of Furtado’s more serious-minded fans have bristled at the pop grooves of “Loose. ” The performer defends her taste: “We don’t value dance music in the same way because it’s so basic: h this music makes me dance. I think that’s why some really good electronic music is not taken seriously. ”She also says “Loose’s” success has freed her creatively. “It’s going to get really exciting for me in the future in terms of exploring other stuff. Under the pop umbrella I think I’ve proven a lot with the third CD and now I feel even more liberated as an artist. I can truly satisfy my whims.

The changing face of Andrejsala
Baltic Times – May 30, 2007
There are often short films or theatre productions playing at various points around the area. Almost as a testament to the artistic nature of the place people here ride around on long lowrider-style bicycles with large cup holders ? bikes designed right in the Andrejsala garages. The bars and clubs in the area play mostly underground electronic music and hip-hop by local DJs but famous musicians occasionally come through for a show. The dance halls blast music loud enough to be heard and enjoyed by the revellers outside. n most weekends a late night visit to Andrejsala will reveal the hundreds of pierced tattooed dreadlocked and baggy-clothed individuals who make up the most important part of any art community. They can be seen sitting cross-legged on the cracked concrete landscape around large ? but well controlled ? bonfires passing around bottles of wine and large conical cigarettes that clearly contain more than just tobacco. Near the back of the long row of old warehouses is an old Soviet boat that was harboured there for repairs that were never completed.

First look: iTunes Plus
Washington Post – May 30, 2007
nce you’ve installed iTunes 7. 2 that link takes you to the iTunes Plus page which holds What’s Hot and Featured Albums boxes similar to those on the Store’s main page as well as Top Albums and Top Songs columns that list pretty much what their titles suggest. Choose a genre and the contents of the What’s Hot and Featured Albums boxes changes to reflect popular and featured albums within that genre. Shortly after iTunes Plus became available I looked through some of the categories and they show some growing pains. For example much as I like Brian Eno’s and The Residents’ I’m not sure they belong among the Store’s featured classical albums. When you click on an album on the iTunes Plus page you’re asked if you’d like to set your iTunes Plus preference.

Without YU/Happening this night won’t be happening
VUE Weekly – May 30, 2007
People can do spoken word or read or create sound. They can dance if they’re so inclined. ”ne of the stations will be dedicated to electronic music equipped with drums keyboards and a synthesizer as well as a couple folks to help people learn to use them. “I’m basing this around the belief that everybody’s an artist” Boa says. “Even if you just stomp your feet to a rhythm. You can dance around and practice learning a rhythm” adds Boa who also plans to ignite the space with his energy.
