Electro-Music Festival 2007 will span three days

June 1 through 3 at the Cheltenham Arts Center in Cheltenham. The program will include 40 separate concerts as well as more than a dozen seminars and demonstrations. The scope of the festival is broad covering all aspects of electro-music including circuit bending (modification of electronic toys to make new sounds) computer music electro-jazz synthesis musique concrete (manipulation of recorded sounds) improvisation noodles (programs or machines that generate algorithmic music) surround sound technology new programs and instruments multi-media and video art (VJ). Love & Special Sauce. It’s more groove-oriented danceable though. I love electronic music I love hip-hop and loop-based music. I want to do that but I want do that on a more organic tip. You know have my drummer come in but then edit the drums and program them and make them crazy and tweak them out. Hailing from Athens Ga. this sextet is not a jam band. Instead the group delves into traditional style electronic music performing long trance-like songs that create a mood. For the techno geeks in the crowd the band boasts using Apple computers on stage. STS9’s 2005 release “Artifact” contained 20 songs but a new remix CD titled “Artifact Perspectives” revamps 15 of those tunes. The band’s song titles are simple “Today” “Tokyo” “Possibilities” “Musical Story. ” The band members’ names are not Audio Angel Hbe DnP DM Zach and JL.

Nono’s politically charged manifestos. Fragments of texts by revolutionary leaders guerrillas workers and students are sung shouted and otherwise intoned countered by taped voices that offer militaristic jargon “Provocative breaking off diplomatic relations” “Declaration of limited nuclear war” from a 1965 article in Fortune magazine. Contemporary resonances were unavoidable; what’s more Mr. Nono’s music retained its defiant fury even if certain electronic sounds that must once have unsettled listeners have long since become the lingua franca of horror-movie scores. The soprano Tony Arnold a guest performer and the clarinetist Joshua Rubin performed with intensity and fierce concentration. At times their sounds blended together to intentionally uncomfortable effect: You literally felt bones in your ears resonating in protest. The percussionists beat tapped and scraped punctuation on suspended metal sheets while the reciters moaned barked and shouted fragmentary lines.
