John Prine and Mac Wiseman Standard Songs For Average People: These two legends have teamed up for a compilation of old almost forgotten standards including ld Rugged Cross In the Garden andPistol Packin’ Momma. Lou Reed Hudson River Wind Meditations: With four decades in the business under his belt Lou Reed fans always expect the unexpected from him and this latest release is no exception. Dedicated to the art of relaxation this album is a hypnotic sound scape of electronic music to ease the mind and cleanse the body of tension and negative energy. Midnight Movies Lion the Girl: n this their second full-length release the band explores haunting new vistas and back alleys of the soul expanding the reach of their acclaimed “psychedelic pop” with an expanded lineup and more expansive songwriting. Sounds like: the Raveonettes the Jesus and Mary Chain. Blame Sally Severland: Dallas has its Dixie Chicks and San Francisco has Blame Sally. Blame Sally’s music is a little more indie a little less country a little more brainy and Blame Sally released their potent anti-war song in 2001 long before protest became fashionable among the mainstream.

The lack of vocals on any of the tracks is but one such departure despite the power ballad sound of the vast majority of the tracks. The clear infusion of classical music soundtrack music and electronic music is another departure. Despite some departures from convention the individual tracks on VI are not as distinctive as they could be. After listening to the first five or so tracks things start to sound awfully similar. While the majority of the songs solidly constructed and executed it is this repetitiveness that prevents VI from being an exceptional album. However it IS an album that is worth at least a few spins.
